Account Manager, Projects And OperationsCenso Biotechnologies Jun 2019 - Mar 2021Easter Bush, Midlothian, Gbo Spearheaded optimisation of scientific operations at two company sites. Led multiple working groups to:- Better define and streamline laboratory processes- Generate process maps, tracker templates and SOPs- Establish searchable data records for future process improvement and troubleshooting- Assess and improve process robustness and reproducibility- Create cost/pricing templates that accurately reflect necessary project resources- Implement lessons learnt from completed projectso Worked cross-functionally with the scientific and business teams to create estimates and proposals for client projects.o Managed projects by liaising with the scientific team and clients to ensure effective communication and milestones were met. -
Senior Scientific ManagerWellcome Trust Sanger Institute Jul 2016 - May 2019Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, GbCellular Generation and Phenotyping (CGaP) Core Facility:o Led a team of 5 to 6 people to deliver multiple projects for faculty teams. Projects:- INSIGNIA (Sep 2015 – Dec 2018). Derivation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) lines from 100 diseased blood samples and characterization of pluripotency ; subcloning of 250 iPSC lines. - "Interferon (IFN) response" project (Jan 2016 - Mar 2017). Banking and stimulation with IFN-β or Poly-I:C of 100 human primary fibroblast lines to characterize their immune response. - MacroMap (Sep 2016 – Dec 2018). Differentiation of 315 human iPSC lines into macrophages and chemical stimulations to identify associated eQTLs. - PathMap (Sep 2017 – May 2019). Banking of 100 human iPSC lines containing a targeted knock-out (KO), differentiation into macrophages and stimulation with 10 isolates of the bacteria Klebsiella pneumonia to characterize the macrophage's response to stimulation. - CRISPR-iPS (Jan 2019 – May 2019). Generation of KO iPSC lines by infecting Cas9-expressing iPSC lines derived from 40 healthy donors with a genome-wide library of guide RNAs.o Established skills in:- Motivating and developing a team - Running multiple large-scale projects in parallel - Setting up pipelines- Communicating with different faculty teams, reporting progress and issues, managing expectations- Using project management tools like project initiation documents, issue logs, capacity plans, monthly reports, Gantt charts - Dealing with personnel issues o Acted as the facility's Health & Safety (H&S) local coordinator: kept the department updated on H&S, wrote risk assessments, improved H&S practice and made them in line with the institute's policy, carried out laboratory inspections (campus-wide), reported at the institute's H&S meetings for scientific operation. -
Staff ScientistWellcome Trust Sanger Institute Feb 2014 - Jun 2016Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, GbCGaP core facility: o iPSC derivation pipeline: reprogrammed fibroblasts and blood samples to iPSCs, set up the iPSC subcloning technique used at CGaP for the INSIGNIA project, optimised the fibroblast isolation process from skin biopsies, helped research assistants understand iPSC derivation and culture by training them and writing SOPs.o Line-management: two research assistants (Jan and Mar 2015, respectively).o Project management: started INSIGNIA (Sep 2015) and "IFN response" (Jan 2016) projects.o Became H&S local coordinator (Mar 2015).
