I study the mechanisms involved in the generation of experimental long febrile seizures and in their consequences. I demonstrated that fever mediators such as proinflammatory cytokines, are involved in the generation of febrile seizures as well as in the development of epilepsy (Dubé et al.,J. Neurosci., 2010).I advocated Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as an attractive tool to define markers for adverse outcomes after long experimental febrile seizures because in humans prospective and retrospective studies suggest that a subpopulation of children with long FS may be at risk for epilepsy, cognitive deficits and emotional dysfunction. Markers for this “at-risk” population are lacking. I discovered appropriate predictive biomarkers for cognitive deficits and for epileptogenesis after long febrile seizures. These markers are clinically relevant. ( Choy et al., under review 2013; Dubé et al.,J. Neurosci., 2010;Dubé et al., Exp. Neurol., 2009, Dubé et al., Ann. Neurol., 2004).Submitted two NIH R01 Grants: “Origins of depression in temporal lobe epilepsy”, “Developmental epilepsy-more than seizures”. Serving as liaison to and developed relationships with regulatory committees (IACUC [institutional animal care and use committee]; IBC [institutional biosafety committee]) .Coordinator for the Special Interest Group “Basic Neuroscience” at the annual meeting of the American Epilepsy Society from 2009 to 2012.Member of two committees at the American Epilepsy Society: Scientific Program Committee ( 2012 to present) and Investigator and Clinical Investigator Workshop committee, starting 2013.Facilitating a cohesive and collaborative work environment amongst an international team of postdoctoral fellows, research associates and graduate students.Supervision of Postdocs, PhD, and undergraduate studentsSelected publications: http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=Celine+M+Dube Show less

I developed an immature rodent model of febrile seizures. I catapulted the model into one that literally “opened up” the research field on long febrile seizures and their relationship to epilepsy. I carried out the first prospective study demonstrating that experimental long FS induce recurrent spontaneous seizures later in life in 35% of the rats (Dubé et al., Brain, 2006). The impact of this finding among the clinicians was tremendous.I studied some of the mechanisms involved in the… Show more I developed an immature rodent model of febrile seizures.
