I am currently working in Chicago Public Schools as a part time special education teacher in a K-8 setting. My caseload can span grades K-8, in a variety of LRE settings (e.g. resource or co-teaching/inclusion). My previous experience includes full time special education teaching across all LRE settings (co-teaching, resource, separate day schools), MTSS Coordinator & Lead Interventionist, as well as a Special Education Case manager in Chicago Public Schools. Please see below for more information regarding my current position and past experiences outside of CPS.I have three years of experience as a case manager and fifteen years of teaching experience in various urban public school districts including Chicago Public Schools, Boston Public Schools, Denver Public Schools and Lansing School District. I have worked with students in grades K-8 in special education, general education, MTSS, ESL and extended learning day programming. Prior to classroom teaching I gained valuable experience working with various social/human services agencies including Lansing Catholic Charities Refugee Services, the State of Michigan Friend of the Court Bureau and the YMCA.I received my B.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Michigan State University and my M.Ed. in Special Education from DePaul University. I am currently hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) in Special Teaching ages 5-21, with an LBS1 & ESL endorsement.I strongly believe in the science of reading and curriculums that follow this practice, such as the Orton-Gillingham method. I am committed to creating learning spaces that are based on developmentally appropriate practices and include SEL, movement and experiential learning.
