As the Thermal Vacuum Tests Group Leader, I'm taking the overall responsibility for the operation of the existing and planned thermal vacuum testing facilities operated by the Environmental Test Division within the RAL Space department. The current facilities span two buildings at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory site, ranging in size from 0.1 to 100 m3, as part of the NSTF construction a very large chamber (500m3) is being commissioned which will add to the capabilities. Tests can range in simplicity and duration significantly, from simple activities requiring little technical engagement and preparation through to multi-year preparations and test durations of many weeks
