About Phillip Clark
I'm an experienced software engineer and architect, working mostly in Node.js for the recent decade, building containerized microservices for cloud based SaaS. I thrive on the backend, in the services layer, and data IO. I have more than 30 years of experience architecting and building systems that scale. Since 2010 I've also modeled and built data access for NoSQLs, starting with CouchDB, Cassandra, and Riak, later MongoDB and Elastic(search). Many of my roles have been lead and architect, and in these roles I've advocated loose coupling, strong contracts, and message orientation. I've designed and built many microservices systems that are event driven using AMQP (RabbitMQ or Azure Message Bus), Apache Kafka, and Nats. I often end up building proof-of-concept services that serve as reference models that the team uses to mass-produce the business logic and service layers.I've occasionally contributed to UI layers, usually in Next.js using react. I prefer Typescript but am comfortable with modern javascript when the team's culture dictates it. My own NPMs (dozens under github/flitbit) are a mix of js and ts, depending on when it was written. While doing cloud-ops and sys-admin type work (I wear lots of hats!) I've done tons of shell scripting, Python, Terraform, and Ansible. I'm an advocate of infrastructure-as-code so I put it in repos and tie it into our Ci/CD pipelines. I've developed and deployed entire infrastructures in AWS, GCP, and Azure. At this point in my career, I just want to keep programming and contributing where it makes sense to the organization. I've had all of the roles from the FNG to the CTO, but I really just want to keep coding, as a team member, and help make every sprint a success. My preference is to work with a team using Node.js, since that is where the bulk of my recent experience is, or Golang, if the team would take a flier on me, because I've invested in climbing that hill and am excited to continue if the opportunity arises. other than that, I've delivered production systems/modules in many many languages, Go, Rust, C, C++, Java, Erlang, C#, VB, UCSD Pascal, nearly all of the SQLs, and lots of oddballs like Lua and Swift. I've been a professional since 1993 and worked across the department wherever problems arise, so my skillset is truly an alphabet soup. I continually to adapt to new tech.If your team needs another experienced engineer or architect, I'd like to hear about it.
Listed skills include Node.Js, Docker, Code Generation, Scalability, and 31 others.
