My duties while operating the locomotive are 6 hours working the ground as a switchman, and 6 hours operating the locomotive itself. As the switchman I keep radio communication with the locomotive driver to put cars in there proper location. Keeping empty cars available for plants to fill orders and keep on with productivity. Setting cars out on a set out track, ready for Union Pacific to pick them up. Making sure our inventory of cars physically matches the paper work etc. Also weighing cars to meet FRA requirements to set cars on main lines on a certified scale and as a certified operator. As the locomotive operator I follow all instructions from my switchman. I make sure my speeds are correct for certain areas. I maintain proper control of cars by proper amounts of air to the cars to help me stop. Follow all FRA requirements at crossing etc. I have been to a FRA convention in Reno, Nevada that has helped me in my carrier a lot.

I operated a boiler that produced steam for a potatoe plant. The boiler was started by natural gas and then switched to run on oil. Through out my shift I would maintain the correct amount of chemicals used in the operation via lab work. I would collect several samples to run these test. On the maintenance end I rebuilt small motors, replace bearings on pumps and lubed and greased equipment.

I loaded product in trucks to be shipped. Also kept all packaging lines stocked with various product being packaged for customers. We used push pull forklifts and electric forklifts.
