In 2017 I entered the NOVA School of Science and Technology as an undergraduate student in the field of Biochemistry in which, after three years, I graduated from; all the while participating in several events of scientific communication and research performed by national and international research nuclei such as the Technology Journeys (JORTEC) provided by my university and congresses such as the 2017 edition of the Encontro com a Ciência e Tecnologia em Portugal as well as volunteering at the 2018 edition of the Expo FCT. During my degree I obtained additional qualifications transversal to my course in the form of an X-Ray Crystallography workshop in 2018. It was during my undergraduate years that I received a merit scholarship provided by Hovione FarmaCiencia,SA under the program “HOVIONE Solidária na Educação”, and gained professional experience as a trainee for the Protein Modelling laboratory at the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier, under the supervision of Dr. Diana Lousa, and, in the last year of my graduate program I placed the knowledge I had acquired on a national level by participating in the finals of the 1st University Olympiads of Biochemistry in 2020 held at the Universidade de Coimbra. After doing a final course project on “Bio-functionalized gold nanostars for detection of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) related to lactose intolerance” and having graduated of the course in 2020, I entered the master’s course in Biochemistry to deepen my understanding of this area of study; during this time I had the opportunity to be part of the Portuguese team, NOVA_LxPortugal, as a student member, which participated in the international competition iGEM 2021, being awarded to us the silver award. Afterwards, I engaged in my thesis at the Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Farmácia, on “Topical eye drug delivery: hybrid nanoparticles with improved bioactivity and mucoadhesive properties”. This thesis gave me the opportunity to present my progress on it during two instances, the first being an oral presentation for the Jornadas Intercalares das Dissertações Anuais dos Mestrados dos Departamentos de Química e de Ciências da Vida of 2022 organized by the NOVA School of Science and Technology, and the second in the form of a conference poster presented in the 13th iMed.ULisboa Postgraduate Students Meeting of 2022. And at the end of 2022 I graduated from my Master’s in Biochemistry after defending my thesis and recently I started a German course at the A1 proficiency level at the Goethe-Institut.
