Service Representative
CurrentSCOPE OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Serve as a first point of contact for the Social Security Administration answering a wide variety of questions via telephone and in person; manage the review of eligibility of all applicants and cases, assess urgency of situations to determine immediate referrals to other programs or agencies as needed, and explain rights of appeal, fair hearings, and legal rights if the cases have been denied.INVESTIGATIVE MANAGEMENT: Perform detailed interview of existing and potential recipients and manage all investigative work for the verification of information, income, and document authenticity; research and gather information, analyze and determine eligibility, analyze a claimant’s benefit payment history if needed, and review and refer suspected fraud cases to investigations for appropriate action.ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT: Prepare detailed documentation on all in-person and phone call activities; manage and prepare reports, correspondence, and documents, inspecting to ensure they are complete, accurate, correctly stated, and could stand on their own merits in further investigations or legal proceedings. Ensure all sensitive documents and records are filed in compliance with required procedures and consistent with record handling and retention requirements; oversee the maintenance of database control and archival of historical and case documents for tracking and to ensure that all information is readily available for retrieval or to supplement information already available.COMMUNITY RESOURCES MANAGEMENT: Refer applicants to other state agencies or community resources when appropriate; serve as an agency liaison representing the organization for a multi-agency effort to assist individuals with their needs; work closely with diverse agencies with an emphasis on improving quality, accountability, and efficiency of the service.
