I am the Scientific Manager of the Biotechnology Area in Eurecat, Technological Centre of Catalonia. After 15 years devoted to boosting innovation, applied research, and technology transfer to the biotech industry, I must admit that my nuclear field of expertise is quite versatile with a broad background as a scientific advisor in the design of the whole R&D pipeline to demonstrate the health-related cause-effect relationship of a bioactive ingredient, food or nutraceutical to achieve the market; the omics application to detect biomarkers and elucidate mechanisms of action of bioactive and, to sum up, the field of industrial health claims substantiation made on foods. I developed a key role in more than 35 R&D&I projects of industrial research for private companies in the fields of biotechnology, food, nutrition, dietetics, and health. These collaborations have been funded by either private R+D contracts or competitive calls such as CENIT, CIEN, PID (CDTI, Spanish government); RETOS (Spanish government); NUCLIS, INNOTEC, RIS3CAT (ACCIO, Catalan government). I am also the technical manager of the Red de tecnologías ómicas aplicadas a la innovación y desarrollo industrial de alimentos funcionales y nutracéuticos – TECNOMIFOOD (CER-20191010, MICIU-CDTI).As a scientific researcher, I have contributed to the health effects and mechanistic role of bioactive food compounds, such as polyphenols, prebiotics, and probiotics. I am an associate professor of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili with 12 years of academic experience, a member of the Scientific Committee of the Alimentaria Foodtech congress, a member of Govern Council of the Food Sciences Catalan Association, and member of the Advice Council on Nutrition and Health in some food companies.
