C.F. Yam is a qualified actuary with more than 30 years experience in life, health and general insurance; and investment and pension practices. C.F. is now an INED of life insurers in Hong Kong and chairs With-Profit Committee. C.F. started his career in an actuarial consulting firm, providing advice to insurers, retirement schemes and fund management companies. He held positions as chief financial officer and appointed actuary for both traditional life insurer and bancassurers; and structured and supervised investment strategies for life and pension funds, and their asset-liability risk management.Apart from financial and actuarial roles, C.F. also managed businesses, including group insurance and pension businesses and the third party pensions administration company serving businesses outsourced by major financial institutions in Hong Kong. C.F. is experienced in managing both a smaller team of professional staff and sized operations. In his operations roles, C.F. has overseen life insurance and MPF operations; and has been active in structuring system designs and implementing new service initiatives as well as six-sigma process excellence practice. Apart from his INED roles, C.F. now focuses on insurtech and AI initiatives for insurance services innovation and is Senior Advisor to Sinosoft International as well. C.F. was President of the Actuarial Society of Hong Kong in 1997, and chaired ASHK life insurance and pensions committees. He was a panel member of the specialists of the Mandatory Provident Fund Scheme of the Government of HKSAR. C.F. was also the leading Hong Kong representative on PBOC’s working committee, drafting the first actuarial practice for the PRC. Apart from publishing articles in Hong Kong and China, C.F. has also spoken in universities and professional forums on subjects including investment implications on variable annuity products, solvency practices & fintech.
