I serve as the programmatic technology lead for the organization, building GIS & Data Science program from scratch into a high-functioning collaborative team with expertise in analysis, cartography, and software development and a budget north of $2 million. Some highlights of my time here at American Forests include:● Implementing a cloud-based analysis and GIS environment in AWS, while also instituting business rules around code and data management using Github.● Conceptualizing the research, development, and deployment of American Forests flagship urban forestry platform, Tree Equity Score, from a vision to a methodology to a data product and finally to a dynamic and expanding web-based platform. Applications include the flagship Tree Equity Score National Explorer, the deep-dive Tree Equity Score Analyzer, an expansion to the United Kingdom, and more in the pipeline.● Introducing data storytelling with maps and interactive data visualizations to translate American Forests leading science in urban forestry and wildfire resilience to effectively communicate with a broader audience and fundraise around our work.● Initiating review of organizational IT systems from CRM and financial management software to communication and file management resulting in a holistic assessment of systems and processes. Leading the implementation of recommendations from the assessment and budgeting for a greater investment in operational IT.● Taking charge of operational IT during a rapidly changing organizational landscape, deploying new resources to support efficient and effective technology, and augmenting managed IT services and consultants with the organization’s first Operations & Systems Analyst.

CGD Analytics helps clients and partners achieve new levels of understanding and engagement using spatial data and analysis. We specialize in:- Telling visually compelling stories of place with data with beautiful static maps and dynamic web-based story-maps. - Enhancing client spatial understanding of the existing conditions, trends, or future expectations of their community or focus areas. - Applying science to land-use decision-making leading to more effective long- and short-term environmental outcomes.

I worked at the intersection of climate science, planning, and GIS, conducting research on the latest in climate science, exploring new analysis techniques to translate data into climate priorities, and developing tools for TPL's Climate Smart Cities program to help local decision-makers identify strategic locations to reduce urban heat islands, improve alternative transportation routes, reduce coastal flooding, and protect critical infrastructure. My work at TPL has provided support for better decision-making in cities across the U.S. from Boston to Dallas to New Orleans to Los Angeles and many others.

Taught advanced GIS course focused on spatial analysis and modeling for environmental science students.

My responsibilities spanned cartography, spatial analysis, modeling, scripting, and data management. I worked with customers across government, the private sector, and NGOs to create hundreds of maps annually; used ArcGIS Network Analyst to do walk-time analyses for grocery stores, metro stations, and bus lines; built models using ArcGIS Model builder to automate geoprocessing tasks and tools to analyze economic feasibility and development capacity; wrote python scripts to create add-ins, iterate geoprocessing tasks, and create map books; and manage and update multiple datasets across historic preservation, small area planning, and food security.

Managed development of the initial Google maps based official zoning map of DC. Implemented changes to zoning layers approved by the District of Columbia Zoning Commission. Developed topology rules in ArcGIS to rebuild zoning layer and create coincident zoning boundaries. Utilized SQL Server technology to update and maintain all zoning data from 1968 to present.

Developed tools for coastal communities to integrate smart growth principles and climate adaptation. Provided GIS support for boundary delineation of new and existing Marine Protected Areas. Co-coordinated Water Quality Issue Team of the Gulf of Mexico Alliance established to achieve the goals set forth in the Governors’ Action Plan for Healthy and Resilient Coasts. Developed a socioeconomic analysis of the Gulf of Mexico region in an effort to educate the public on the importance of natural resources to their quality of life. Co-authored a report quantifying the area coral reef ecosystem protected in marine protected areas. Produced scenario maps (using GIS) identifying potential management strategies for the NOAA Regional Collaboration Working Group.

Developed a standardized format for compiling and organizing state-specific spatial data. Analyzed potential sites for development of wind farms using geographic information systems and economic models

Collaborated with state agencies to co-author the 2005 Virginia Coastal Needs Assessment. Co-facilitated and managed public involvement process for development of the Cub Run & Bull Run Watershed Plan in Fairfax, VA. Facilitated public meetings and practiced consensus building at state strategy meetings. Researched and revised issue briefs on environmental issues for the Virginia Natural Resources Leadership Institute.
