I worked as a Teacher's Assistant (one-on-one aide) for three years at Eastview Elementary School in Steger. Here, I assisted two students, one with muscular dystrophy and the second with autism. The scope of work includes assistance with toileting, school work, tutoring, lunch and recess supervision of students, in addition to assistance for teachers with grading papers and room organization. This job helped me developed my communication skills with school aged children, their parents, and school staff. The second job that I had was a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for almost a year in the telemetry department at St. James Olympia Fields. I was able to establish good interaction with nurses, patients, their family and other units' staff. I was once voted by the unit's staff as Best Employee for a month for my "exceptional dedication and organization." My hospital work as a PCT further motivated me to pursue nursing so that I may be able to continue to care for sick people.
