Vice President, Software DevelopmentStoner Associates, Inc. 1984 - 1996Carlisle, PaStoner Associates, Inc. (now part of DNV GL), is an engineering software firm. Joining the founder, Dr. Michael Stoner, I led the development and delivery of groundbreaking simulation software for the pipeline utility industry. Hired as a hands-on product manager/developer for this ground up application, I was the chief product designer, software architect and lead developer of what became Synergi (formerly SWS), the first interactive, graphic, hydraulic network analysis simulator for the natural gas and water utility industries. Within fifteen months we released the first version of this product to three major gas utilities (PG&E, Delmarva Power and Providence Gas) on three platforms, including an in-house timeshare service. My role grew rapidly until I had responsibility for all of Stoner’s product offerings as VP Software and Product Development. Sold worldwide, Synergi Gas dominates the North American gas utility market, capturing a 90% market share and delivering product to 23 countries. Subsequently acquired and integrated solutions for realtime hydraulic analysis and monitoring of natural gas and petroleum pipeline transmission mains for operational support and leak detection, interfacing with SCADA and GIS systems.During my tenure, I performed and then directed all aspects of development, documentation, porting and delivery on every major platform in use at the world’s largest utilities, including IBM mainframes; DEC and Prime minicomputers; IBM, Sun, HP and Intergraph UNIX workstations; and Windows PCs. I managed multiple teams and was hands-on in development migration from minicomputer platforms to PCs. Directed and oversaw application code migration from a procedural architecture to a mixed object oriented UI interfacing a complex, legacy, numerical analysis computational engine (Newton-Raphson method solving massive sparse matrices). I also had responsibility for all of Stoner's IT since it primarily supported these development activities. -
