Assisted with the development of policy and conducted the initial inventory induction for a new, congressionally-mandated buoy inventory and request system. Developed course material and trained over 200 members at nearly 20 units ranging from executive-level oversight to field-level users.

Served as the Training Officer for over 60 active duty members. Developed and oversaw all aspects of the unit’s training program including seamanship and boat crew qualifications as well as law enforcement certification. Developed and implemented classes for specific unit certifications. Additionally served as the unit’s Weapons Officer, responsible for the maintenance and accountability for over 100 small arms and thousands of rounds of ammunition and pyrotechnics. Passed numerous compliance inspections with 98% pre-inspection accuracy. Planned and led deployable teams of over 35 members and responsible for $1M+ of property and weapons on numerous country-wide security missions.

OCRACOKE is a 110’ Patrol Boat, 165 displacement tons, 5820 SHP. Served as the Executive Officer, Senior Deck Watch Officer and Navigator. Served as the Training Board Chairman, developing and oversaw the training program for 15 active duty members, including training and certification programs for over 13 crew members in two years. Ensured all logistical needs were met for six foreign country port calls including the Bahamas and Cuba. Skillfully moored/unmoored and coached junior deck officers in over 100 evolutions, many times during inclement and harsh conditions. Gleaned an annual budget in excess of $35K. Additionally served as personnel officer, investigating and responding to numerous issues from allegations of misconduct to work life situations.

Hampton Bays, Ny

Served as the Training Board Chairman and senior Motor Life Boat (47’, 20 ton, 870 SHP) Coxswain for over 50 active duty members and 12 reservists. Was responsible for the certification of all boat crew positions, as well as keeping maintaining navigational proficiency in over 50 nautical miles of shoreline and inland waterways with every shifting channels due to heavy weather. Met the challenge of executing and training for numerous heavy weather search and rescue cases, operating in breaking surf, high winds, and other treacherous conditions. Served as the CG liason with local agencies for numerous emergency rescues, in an ICS-type situation, including downed air craft and personnel casualties.

USCGC ZEPHYR is a 179’ littoral patrol craft, 380 tons, 14K SHP. Served as the Operations Officer, Navigator, and Senior Deck Watch Officer. Oversaw the certification process for all navigation positions, including over 15 Deck Watch Officers. Served as senior member of the on board training team responsible for daily training, and creation and implementation of daily emergency drills. Handled diplomatic clearances, logistics and navigational responsibilities for 12 foreign port calls from Alaska to Equador. Interacted with foreign navies, coast guards and husbanding agents to ensure successful port calls and training evolutions including seamanship, search and rescue and weapons maintenance and marksmanship. Was counted on for the most difficult mooring evolutions, including numerous Central and South American Countries which had less than ideal water depths, up to date charts, and poor pier conditions.

The Coast Guard 85201 was a fiberglass hull. 85’ patrol craft weighing 125 tons, 5470 SHP. Served as the Officer in Charge/Navigator. Developed and implemented new policy, training and qualification procedures and operational schedule for a one-of-a-kind, proto-type vessel, with no guidance or precedence. Oversaw all aspects of certifications and training plans for a crew of six, including damage control, navigation and seamanship.

Served as the Operation Petty Officer, Boarding Officer and Tactical Coxswain. Was a front runner and developer of new tactics training that the Coast Guard implemented in the wake of September 11th. Deployed throughout the Pacific Area, conducting numerous successful security misions.

USCGC EDISTO is a 110’ Patrol Boat, weighing165 tons, 5820 SHP. Served as First Lieutenant, Training Officer, Boarding Officer, Coxswain and Deck Watch Officer. Was responsible for training and maintenance for all Rescue and Survival Gear, the unit’s training program, and the certification of three coxswains and two deck watch officers. Conducted numerous mooring/unmooring evolutions in the Pacific Northwest in often harsh weather conditions.

Served as boarding officer and 41’ Utility Boat Coxswain (41’, ~15 tons, 340 SHP). Was a member of the Training Board and assisted with over 50 boat crew member, coxswain and law enforcement certifications. Planned and executed numerous security zones in support of space shuttle and rocket launches.

East Peoria, Il

USCGC SANGAMON is a 65’ river tender with a 99’ working barge and crane weighing 460 total tons, 7500 SHP. Served as helmsman, crane operator and Buoy Deck Supervisor. Seviced over 200 miles of the Illinois RIver, helping to ensure and mark a safe, navigable channel for millions of dollars in interstate commerce. Was responsible for helping to train over 6 newly reported members on all aspects of aids to navigation maintenance and deck seamanship.
