SabbaticalSelf-Employed Feb 2024 - Aug 2024After VMware was acquired by Broadcomm, our entire TA division was laid off (500+ globally). I decided to 6 months and just be! During that time I have had a chance to spend my days with my family, coach my son's baseball team, travel, and more! I also helped stand up a Recruitment Agency, and worked with a few companies for critical roles (includes GTM Sales). Lastly, I have really enjoyed all the new AI Tools I have had the time to really dive into such as: BrightHire, My Metaview, Bard, ChatGPT, and PeopleGPT. Best decision ever!

We focus on low talent availability/niche skillsets in the Modern Apps/Cloud Native space. Kubernetes/Docker, Golang, gRPC, AWS/GSP/Azure are some of the main technologies many of our groups look for. For our Staff level roles, we often have additional expectations above these technolgoies to find domain expertise in Dev Experience/Productivity, SaaS Control Planes, Cloud Native experience, Observability, OSS (open source software) contributions, and more. My day to day is different any given week. I may be leading training sessions on new tools like Seekout and LinkedIN Talent Insights, how to drive DEI sourcing, or how to manage client expectations in a very tough skillset. Next week I may take on a few strategic roles to keep my pulse on the market, candidate experience, and our hiring process. I truly believe I should always keep my skills relevant and recruit myself. My teams have always appreciated this when I have the opportunity to do so.
