During this field school I participated in the excavation of a site that was home to a medieval Cistercian abbey. The field work involved using traditional archaeological field methods to investigate certain cuttings from the site, lab techniques like sifting, sorting, labeling, and cleaning, etc. There was also a bioarchaeological component to the fieldwork, in which I assisted with the excavation of medieval human remains, as well as the specific associated lab tasks when working with human remains.

During this course I participated in a four-week accredited field school that was focused on public archaeology, bioarchaeology, and feature excavation. I learned valuable archaeological skills during this field school including surveying techniques, archaeological drawing, use of a laser scanner, and archaeological drawing. I also spent a considerable amount of time working in post-excavation processing, where I sorted, cleaned, and prepared finds for storage in the National Museum of Ireland. Before completion of the field school, I was given a leadership position in the post-excavation tent, where I was expected to train other students in the proper processing techniques.
