Five years ago, a concussion brain injury followed by PPCS - persistent post concussive symptoms - derailed my life. In what seemed simultaneously like the quickest and longest period of time, I went from accomplishing goals and experiencing joy, to grappling with concepts such as “my old self” and no longer understanding how to make a sandwich. Recovery appointments, hard work and slow progress filled my next few years. Despite persisting symptoms, I somewhat returned to certain tasks and activities. But I remained limited, as I wasn’t able to manage multiple items per day. I wanted to earn money, feel productive and contribute to society again while also enjoying social engagements, travel and hobbies. I was stuck and there was no one to help me return to my life.Luckily, I developed a deeper level of patience than I ever thought possible and eventually, figured out the missing piece to this puzzle.
