After starting my career in the corporate law practice group of Michael Best & Friedrich, LLP - a full-service business law firm widely regarded in Wisconsin as one of the state's finest - I went in-house with Springs Window Fashions, which is a national manufacturer, importer and distributor of window covering products. As Associate General Counsel with Springs, I handled or supervised a wide variety of legal matters, ranging from corporate acquisitions to intellectual property licensing arrangements to commercial contracts to executive compensation. I expanded my skills to include litigation management and developed triage-level competence in specialized areas such as commercial lending and employment law.After nearly 10 years with Springs (and the seismic event known as COVID-19), I joined up again with several former MBF colleagues at Carlson, Black, O'Callaghan and Battenberg, LLP. This boutique firm hits well above its weight class in terms of clients and projects, with some involvement in virtually every major commercial development project in downtown Madison, Wisconsin over the last several years. While the firm is best known for its highly sophisticated real estate practice, it has made substantial in-roads with its business practice of which I am a part. My practice includes representation of early stage companies, venture capital and other equity financing transactions, corporate governance, commercial contracts and mergers and acquisitions.
