Successful proposal to The George Washington University Institute for Biomedical Engineering (GWIBE) Interdisciplinary Research Fund provided seed funds to help initiate research.Developed a robotic grip and wrist assist exoskeleton prototype intended to aid patients who have been debilitated by stroke, spinal cord injury, or other conditions.Authored a research paper included in the proceedings of the 2011 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE).

Supported programs producing/designing electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) and laser sensor systems.Platforms: Global Hawk UAV, V-22 Osprey, CH-53 Sea stallion, MH-60 Pave Hawk, Bradley M2/M3, etc..Responsibilities included creating Engineering Change Proposals, Revision Requests, and Engineering Change Notifications (ECP, ERR, ECN), modifying existing engineering drawings and creating new drawings when appropriate.Designed and created 3-D CAD models and engineering drawings for castings, machined parts, gimbals, four-bar mechanisms, motors, gear boxes, tooling, vendor/source control items, electrical cables, circuit cards, electrical schematics, etc..Developed engineering solutions and implemented drawing changes for improvement of product and ease of manufacture.Using six sigma methods, created an electronic drawing release process for production programs and became the subject matter expert for this process.Drawing release time decreased from two weeks to two days.Became Raytheon Six Sigma Expert.Self-trained on electrical cable drawing requirements.Completed an electrical cable drawing package (includes notes on product and material specifications, detailed parts lists (BOM), electrical schematic/wiring diagram, cable layout, dimensioning and tolerancing, etc.) for a new program in development. Coordinated with systems and electrical engineers to resolve component incompatibility problems.Reason for leaving: Spouse relocation.

Machining Research GroupOperated a CNC lathe to facilitate turning experiments.Generated turning data (tool life, surface roughness, etc.) for newly developed burn-resistant titanium alloy used in jet engines.Completed a detailed report with data, analysis, and recommendations for a consortium sponsored principally by Rolls-Royce.Interfaced with vendors and research team to obtain machining tools used in the turning experiments.
