Fellows in the palliative care and hospice program at Mercy Health are responsible for the supervised care of persons with serious illness of all ages being seen in the inpatient hospital setting in the ambulatory hospital clinic setting, or residing in the community. Fellows are also responsible for the supervised compassionate care of dying hospice patients. The aim of this care was the relief of suffering of all types. Fellow have the joy of working with and learning from teams of nurses, therapists, physicians and physician specialists, chaplains, aides, caregivers, and medical students to help to minimize the suffering of persons with serious illness.

Fellows learn principles of communication, time management, documentation with regarding to clinical care of seniors in the ambulatory clinic setting of the Martha Stewart Center for Living; seniors being cared for at the clinic admitted to the hospital at Mount Sinai Hospital on the Internal Medical Service or other specialty services; seniors living at their homes in Manhattan as a part of the Visiting Docs Program, and finally as resident of the rehab wings and of the long term care wings of the The Jewish Home in Manhattan.
