In Primary Upgrading, bitumen feedstock blended with diluent enters diluent recovery and vacuum distillation units to remove diluent, naphtha, and gas-oil products. The residue bitumen is sent to cokers for conversion/cracking into a lighter hydrocarbon.

Gold Creek 13-26-067-05W6M Gas PlantLocated approximately 50km south of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Gold Creek Plant is a sour gas processing plant built in the late 1960s. The primary feedstock is liquids rich Montney sour gas for CNRL and multiple 3rd party producers. The plant processes include inlet compression, amine sweetening, acid gas disposal, condensate stabilization, shallow cut liquid recovery, and produced water disposal. The plant is interconnected to Wapiti deepcut plant for additional NGL recovery, pipeline connected to TC Energy and Alliance for gas marketing, and Pembina Peace with future connection to Keyera KAPS for condensate marketing.

The Cliffdale field is a cold heavy oil play exploited with multi-leg horizontal wells in the Bluesky formation. The Cliffdale field has integrated operations and gas infrastructure to the adjacent CNRL Peace River Complex in-situ heavy oil play formerly known as Shell Canada’s Carmon Creek project. Produced solution gas is conserved to use as fuel gas and power generation, and residual gas is injected and stored in the Three Creeks reservoir.Lone Rock 13-11-047-27W3M Oil BatteryLocated approximately 35km south of Lloydminster, SK, the Lone Rock field is McLaren, Sparky, and GP cold heavy oil production. The area development is comprised of opportunities in bypassed well recompletions, well reactivations, high volume lift production and optimization, infill drilling, and waterfloods and a polymer flood pilot. Senlac 13-32-039-26W3M Oil BatteryLocated approximately 45km west of Unity, SK, the Senlac field is high watercut Cummings / Dina channel oil production. The area development is high volume, 98.0 – 99.5% watercut, flowlined production with opportunities in debottlenecking facilities for well reactivations, optimizing water injection to reduce power costs, and optimizing downhole well configurations to reduce well servicing frequency to increase production onstream runtime and lower servicing costs.Mantario 13-32-027-27W3M Oil BatteryLocated approximately 55km west of Kindersley, SK, the Mantario field is Lloydminster oil production from 3 waterfloods. CNRL acquired the asset from ConocoPhillips in November 2015, with an initial focus on pursuing reducing costs, optimizing wells to accelerate production, and debottlenecking facilities for well reactivations.

The West Pembina area was focused on optimizing horizontal drilling in the Cardium coupled with multi-stage frac’ing completions, and production performance was enhanced with the implementation of a full field gas lift system.
