During my career I have provided psychiatric treatment in a wide variety of settings that have exposed me to a many types of patients--private practice settings, schools, substance abuse residential programs, hospitals, nursing homes, and outpatient clinics. I have treated patients of all ages. I have recently treated Veterans. My view is that a good doctor-patient relationship where patients' and families' values and wishes are respected promotes the best care.I am very aware of the impact of childhood traumas and adversities on life long health and development. With early intervention the impact of trauma can be lessened. I value promoting healthy relationships both between parents and children and between parents themselves and helping parents work together successfully for the benefit of their children even if they are no longer together as a couple. I value helping patients develop support systems and improve coping skills.Early recognition and treatment of various mental illnesses promotes the most successful recovery and the best treatment outcomes. However, with contnuing care and support many with chronic severe mental illness can also improve their quality of life.
