• Supervise and train staff• Interview applicants for new hire and applicants of promotion opportunities• Supervise inmates and assist them in developing pro-social and positive problem-solving skills, as well as holding them accountable for theirdecisions and actions• Prepare progress reports and correspond with courts and other jurisdictions• Coordinate with internal and external groups and agencies• Ensure compliance with regulations, memorandums, policies, and procedures• Serve on numerous weekly and specialized committees• Oversee inspections of the unit and staff compliance with policy and procedures• Coordinate with appropriate department heads for operations, issues, and recommendations• Investigation and mediation of offender grievances and concerns• Conduct assessments of each assigned inmate and complete all associated documentation• Coordinate inmate individual self-improvement plans to ensure follow-up and proper referral to needed programs and diagnostic assessment• Mentor, supervise, and complete evaluations on assigned staff• Coordinate release to the community with parole and probation, family, work, housing, transportation, recommended treatment centers, healthcare, and other external agencies• Construct and instruct numerous trainings for staff, external agencies, and special operation teams• Review, revise, and develop policies, post orders, and handbooks in accordance to North Dakota Century Code, ACA Guidelines, 8th Circuitand US Supreme Court case law, and US Constitutional requirementsparticularly the 4th, 8th, and 14th Amendments• Certified Hostage Negotiator and Team Leader of the Crisis Negotiation Team• Conduct investigations and complete documentation• Created, organized and maintained files, daily case notes and electronic databases• Conducted disciplinary hearings for adult inmates
