➤ HEALTHCARE BACKGROUND: The first 20+ years of my career were spent providing direct patient care, managing nursing operations, and facilitating healthcare training initiatives. Throughout these foundational years, I always found a way to be involved in technology changes, which cemented my interest in healthcare IT and in particular, clinical informatics systems (CIS). Funny enough, my first major foray into CIS was in the late 90’s providing assistance as it related to testing, training, and implementation of a new EHR system leading up to the infamous Y2K scare! ➤ HEALTHCARE IT CONTINUING EDUCATION: After years as a nurse getting involved with anything tech related, I decided to pursue clinical informatics as a career path and obtained my Master’s in 2016 followed by my Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Healthcare IT in July of 2019. Additionally, I became Board Certified in Nursing Informatics (RN-BC) around the same time I earned my DNP. ➤ CLINICAL INFORMATICS EXPERIENCE: As soon as a role opened with Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in 2015 as a Clinical Application Analyst, I jumped at it. Throughout the duration of that role, I drove patient care, safety, and satisfaction through optimization of existing systems and implementation of new CIS initiatives. Most recently (in December of 2019), I switched roles to become a Health Informaticist at Northwestern Medicine where I have been leveraging my skill set to maintain and improve clinical system-wide services. Along with joining the Northwestern team in recent months, I also had the honor of being selected as 1 of only 2 members inducted into the Alliance for Nursing Informatics “Emerging Leader” program. Involvement in this program has been invaluable in terms of my growth as an informatics leader. ➤ CONTACT ME: Healthcare IT is constantly evolving and I like to think I am as well.
