Not many career paths looks like this; Journalist -> Communications -> OperationsSo, how'd I land in ops?I guess you could say I inadvertently talked my way into it. My two decacdes of communications and journalism expereince demonstrated my ability to quickly adapt and learn new things, build trust and be an effective senior leader. All of which I'm using to bring a refreshing persepective to operations. I use storytelling to drive impact and create actions that benefit entire teams and facilities. I believe in achieving tanglible results through collaboration - after all, operations impacts everyone, so if you want success you need others to buy in. Being able to communicate plans, goals, actions, impact and outcomes allows you to reduce barriers and focus on delivery. My background includes probably what you're thinking. Yes, I sat at the news anchor desk and delivered the news every morning for years. Yes, I did media relations, PR, communications strategy and more. And yes, I lead big projects like repaving multiple parking lots simultanesouly while keeping 24 hour operations moving and a team who excells at everything they do. I just don't think communications makes operations better (and more efficient) - I know it does. I've watched as providing organized, detalied and timely information has chagned the way departments interact with my teams. There is renewed trust - what you say is going to get done, will. There is increased collaboration - departments are ready to help because they know it will get done sooner. There is added appreciation - as improvements happen, everyone's experience improves. Effective commuinication isn't just about telling a story, it's about building a relationship and bringing others along with your plans. Do I want to always stay in operations, who knows. But I do know I love leading teams, creating strategy and supporting others in their growth. What do all those passions have in common? They need effective communications to keep them going and that's what I love to do.
