I supported Canadian firms to grow through innovation, provide business and technology advisory services, diagnosed organizational pathologies, prescribed process development, and provided networking and linkage services. This work included developing relationships with clients, growth plans, strategies, and identifying and negotiating potential projects. I negotiated and managed 20-30 active projects annually, including managing and monitoring budgets, schedules, technical progress, and contracted objectives and activities. I was on partial secondment to the Innovative Solutions Canada (ISC) Secretariat. We developed and implemented the governance of the new annual $100M+ ISC program in which 20 Government of Canada departments and agencies must create challenges for industry to solve, with target starting Technology Readiness (TRL) 1-4, developed in two phases. In Phase 1, awarded SMEs will develop a proof-of-concept of their proposed solution. Those selected to go on to Phase 2 will develop a prototype for their solution, targeted to be about TRL 7. Procurement and/or commercialization can follow several routes.NRC-IRAP is involved at several stages, including assisting in the development of challenges, assessing proposals, reviewing Phase 1 results, and reviewing Phase 2 results.

I taught the M&AE graduate course in Lightweight Structures which focuses on the design of airframes but with general engineering principles for all sorts of thin material structures. I proposed a new graduate course and syllabus for Machine Vision in Aerospace and Robotics which was approved and operated in 2017 and 2018. (I was unable to teach in 2017 and 2018, but I did fill in for a class in 2018.)
