Hello, I'm Chadia Mathurin, a Caribbean woman currently resident in Accra, Ghana. My purpose revolves around effecting positive change, not just in my immediate community but extending beyond its borders. This is not only evident in the nature of the projects I've spearheaded but also in the moves and upheavals I've endured across regions and continents driven solely by a need to understand intimately the needs of the contexts I aspire to impact.Over the past 8 years, my life's work has been concerned with creating digital platforms that help marginalized demographics across Africa and the Caribbean come into the fray of global development. I have successfully launched and led initiatives in agritech, fintech, edtech, luxury and commercial real estate, and media sectors. These ventures were crafted with the explicit aim of bridging gaps and offering opportunities to underserved populations.A highly skilled storyteller, I credit my success across multiple industries to my ability to solve the mysteries and shape compelling and catalytic narratives. My track record also testifies of the competencies of an adroit problem-solver and innovator, one always seeking out new and creative ways to address pressing social and developmental issues, particularly those in African and Caribbean contexts. But perhaps my greatest asset is my unique ability to navigate both the grassroots level and the boardroom. My network, inclusive of ministers of government, Wealth Advisors to HNWIs, UHNWIs, Family Offices, diplomats, real estate developers, international and regional athletes, local artists and artisans, and even nannies demonstrates my capacity to form fast connections and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds. With my entrepreneurial spirit, strategic thinking, ability to form connections with an ant in the dirt, and leadership skills, I am excited to continue tackling the challenges of international development within African and Caribbean contexts.

FounderWakonté Books Dec 2017 - PresentWe have created a platform for emerging African and Caribbean authors, poets and writers to have their work professionally published without the worry of expense, to harness the wealth inherent in their stories, and to answer global calls for more diverse and inclusive literature. In 2017 we launched the publishing house with 5 books under a banner called “The Letters Project”. In a compilation of letters released to the public as books, authors tackled a range of issues — social, relational, economic, political, and religious — in a bold and transparent manner, with a tinge of humor, an embrace of Caribbean and African parlance.I functioned at a high level as a team leader, designer, editor, public relations officer, marketer, and social media manager, even spearheading a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised our target of $3000USD in 30 days. Still, I am most proud of the way I handled communication with our authors amidst the disappointment of our investor bailing on us 3 weeks before what should have been our official launch date. If nothing else, the successful launch of Wakonté Publishing sealed and confirmed my mettle as a young leader with the capacity to be flexible and creative in intense and pressure-filled environments. In the end we sold thousands of copies of our books, and 3 of the books were bestsellers. -

Communications DesignerOpen Development And Education Ltd. Jul 2021 - Sep 2021During my brief tenure as a Communications Designer with OpenDevEd, I was responsible for producing design solutions for proposals and publications targeting Caribbean contexts. -
Storyteller & FundraiserFarmwallet Limited May 2020 - Nov 2020When I joined Farmwallet it was a flailing agritech in desperate need of money and direction. I was brought in to remedy that lack.In my two-fold role as Storyteller and Fundraiser, my first order of business was to revamp the company’s brand identity completely. I then brought in some of my team from Wakonté Agency to assist with pitch deck design and to replace an outdated user interface and poor user experience with a modern, sleek design and a seamless user experience. Finally, I revamped the company’s story in a way that found favor with investors and small-holder farmers alike. The result was that within six months we raised tens of thousands of dollars through grants, investors, and pitch competitions. -
Communications OfficerFarmerline Group Aug 2019 - Feb 2020I ran communications for this Ghana-based startup. During my stay at the company, I chronicled and shared the stories of how the company impacted the lives of small-holder farmers across Africa through photography, videography, content creation, and social media management. While my duties at Farmerline were largely communications-related, my biggest takeaways were insights into who I am, what drives me, my values, and priceless lessons in entrepreneurship. I left the company with a greater understanding of how to build and impact culture at a startup, a most-cherished knowledge of how social enterprises can be creative in the design of revenue and monetization models, a budding interest in what it takes to successfully manage talent and a growing respect and appreciation for processes and systems. -
FellowYlai / Young Leaders Of The Americas Initiative Jun 2018 - Jun 2019The Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) empowers entrepreneurs and innovative civil society leaders to strengthen their capacity to launch and advance their entrepreneurial ideas and effectively contribute to social and economic development in their communities.Throughout this fellowship I submitted myself to rigorous trainings and assessments that would assist me in communicating my company story, building my brand, and fine-tuning my processes as a budding social entrepreneur. I also submitted to rigorous travel and networking schedules across the United States and the Caribbean, unquestionably qualifying my “Road Warrior” badge. -
6Th Form Teacher/LecturerGovernment Of Saint Lucia Feb 2018 - Jan 2019I taught Caribbean History and Communication Studies to 16-20-year-olds. I viewed my role as an opportunity to encourage students to believe, soar, and accept their positions as elemental threads in the fabric of the global community. Because it required me to communicate effectively via different mediums to a notoriously short-spanned demographic with various learning styles, I credit this role for broadening my communicative capacity. My colleagues and students will remember me best as the lecturer who effectively used digital strategy to make learning interactive, exciting and modern. -
Researcher & Academic WriterUniversity Of The West Indies, St. Augustine Campus May 2013 - Nov 2013During my time at St. Augustine’s Trade and Economic Development Unit (TEDU) I conducted research on the Natural Trading Hypothesis and its applicability to ascertaining suitable trading partners for Trinidad and Tobago. This required extensive reading on, as well as the collection and analysis of data on the trading patterns of Trinidad and Tobago, and CARICOM at large. My role also included conducting research and writing academic papers on Chindia-CARICOM relations, Caribbean economic typologies, and the significance of gravity models. Perhaps my biggest takeaway was learning to efficiently use databases such as the World Integrated Trade System (WITS) and UNCOMTRADE for the use of compiling reliable data used in calculating International Trade formulae.
