    As a graduate research assistant in Dr. Allison Okamura's Haptics Exploration Laboratory, I designed and built a 2-degree-of-freedom prototype robotic device to insert a needle into the prostate under trans-rectal ultrasound guidance to be used for repeatable, accurate cancer diagnosis and treatment. In addition, I designed and fabricated a 1-degree-of-freedom needle insertion device with force sensing, trajectory control, and data collection software to support joint research with Jessica Crouch (doctoral candidate) modeling soft-tissue deformation of the prostate to enhance open-loop accuracy. These research subjects comprised my master's thesis and resulted in two peer-reviewed publications.
