Major analytical efforts included: development of a model to assess the efficacy of COVID mitigation strategies and to provide recommendations on way ahead; support to the development of command’s overarching strategy; evaluation of the role of special operations forces (SOF) within the National Defense Strategy’s concept of Integrated Deterrence; reconstruction and analysis of major SOF-centric maritime exercises; analysis of sensitive activity concepts; and, support to the shaping and establishment of a new N5 strategy, plans, and policy directorate.

Provided on-site analytical support to the Commander and his staff as the newly-established command worked toward full operational capability and during its initial stages of establishing warfare tactics instructor (WTI) pipelines. Key analytical projects included: reconstruction and analyses of information warfare-related exercises; assessment of command COVID-related responses; development of quantitative and qualitative metrics in support of the Navy’s Large Scale Exercise; and, support to the design and conduct of multiple experimentation efforts to include post-experiment data analyses. Lastly, served as senior scientist to the command’s pivotal Joint Enhanced Emissions Control Procedures (JEEP) effort.

Conducted empirical research and analysis in support of a variety of sponsors across the US Navy, US Marine Corps, and Office of the Secretary of Defense. During this period I also directed numerous projects, as much as $750k/year under my purview, and served as lead author or co-author on approximately 20 major reports. These reports delivered objective analyses and actionable recommendations to support sponsor decisions. As project director, I led multi-disciplinary teams of analysts; developed analytical approaches to address challenging, often unstructured problems; managed project budgets and sponsor relationships; and, published and communicated results to senior Defense leaders.

I was a National Institutes of Health pre-doctoral fellow at Weill Medical College of Cornell University where I completed my PhD in Molecular Pharmacology. During this period, I conducted my thesis research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. My research focused on the development of biochemical assays for the discovery of novel gamma secretase inhibitors (GSIs). Using compound leads discovered via high throughput screening, we performed structure-activity relationship (SAR) analyses and synthesized new, more potent analogs. These compounds are now being used as molecular probes as well as potential therapeutics for Alzheimer disease (AD) and cancer. The most recent GSI class developed possesses an effective therapeutic profile for AD treatment and has helped to provide mechanistic evidence as to the processes regulating specificity of gamma-secretase mediated production of beta-amyloid peptides -- a critical step in the progression of AD. Also, I used our GSIs to establish the role of Notch signaling in Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and evaluated the therapeutic potential of these compounds in an animal model of disseminated lymphoma.7 peer-reviewed publications and 2 patents
