Project Engineer – Electrical & Controls Aug 2007–Nov 2009ITT – Water & Wastewater USA Charlotte, NC Electrical controls lead on group projects to design, build and implement Ultra Violet (UV) Light disinfection systems for the treatment of drinking water and wastewater. Scope of work included developing electrical schematics for control panels, creating control philosophies, bill of materials and other related documentation for submittals and operation and maintenance manuals. Developed customer specific HMI and PLC applications using various programming software and provided factory test assistance and field startup and commissioning support for assigned projects. Also provided technical support to sales group during initial bids and proposals by reviewing specifications and creating single-line cabling diagrams, P&ID drawings, etc. Sample Project Results:•Defined and streamlined engineering support process for the sales group. •Worked with panel fabrication vendors to standardize outsource documentation in order to cut down on changes and modifications in order to speed up build times. •Led a group of engineers in developing an engineering procedure to assess and execute expansion type projects.

Led a group of application engineers in the design and implementation of new developments for automation controls in the woven and non-woven textile industries. Reviewed electrical drawings of other engineers prior to panel assembly. Also performed final checkout of control panels for functionality and quality assurance before shipment to customer site. Proposed new design concepts for electrical control systems for future and existing installations.Sample Project Results:•Converted Truetzschler Multi-Mixer machine program from Siemens Step 5 controls with a proprietary Truetzschler operator panel to Allen-Bradley Flex I/O with a PanelView operator interface.•Support proprietary RS-485 network communications for machine control developed by parent company in Germany.•Designed and implemented feed-forward process for delivering material to machinery using S7 controls replacing the standard PID loop function.•Worked with engineers at other Truetzschler offices to move product line from the woven to the Non-woven textile industry.

Developed control panel layouts including electrical schematics, conducted factory acceptance tests for control designs, and supported the commissioning process for automation systems in the woven and non-woven textile industries. Extensive work programming various PLC and HMI systems to control the opening, blending, and carding processes for various customer specific projects throughout North and South America. Provided 24 hour support, both onsite and remote access, for troubleshooting new and existing control systems.Sample Project Results:•Designed and programmed electrical systems for several large installations in both North and South America.•Developed custom programming functions for Siemens S7-300 series to comply with machine specifications.•Designed and implemented numerous HMI systems including several using large networks, multiple I/O servers, and database inquiries.•Converted plant’s gear cutter controls to Siemens S7-200 controls.
