The Cavalla Historic Foundation is a group of men and women dedicated to the preservation of the unique history and memories of undersea warfare. The Foundation oversees the American Undersea Warfare Center (AUWC) located at the beautiful Seawolf Park in Galveston, Texas. The centerpieces of the AUWC are the USS CAVALLA (SS-244), a WWII submarine; and the USS STEWART (DE-238), a WWII Edsall-class destroyer escort.As a member of the Board of Directors, I helped to oversee the operations of the AUWC museum.

At Marine Safety Office Houston-Galveston, which later became Sector Houston-Galveston, I served in a variety of roles which helped develop the depth of my experience in the maritime industry in Houston. I served as the unit Public Affairs Officer and conducted several high-profile camera interviews on port security operations and new USCG initiatives. Before Sector Houston-Galveston was established, I served as the unit's Waterways Management officer and was intimately involved in crafting policy regarding the timely notification of channel obstructions within the Houston Ship Channel and its associated waterways. I was also involved in NIMS organization and implementation during the unit's seasonal hurricane preparedness operations.I also served as the unit's maritime law enforcement officer and oversaw the training of USCG law enforcement tactics, techniques, and procedures to unit personnel. I also oversaw the unit's boathouse and guided its crews' transition to new Defender-class response boats. With the addition of the new boats, I helped transition the unit's boat crews to establishing crew-served weapons aboard each vessel and ensured that each crew was efficiently and effectively trained to use the new weapons in one of the nation's most dynamic and strategically-vital waterways. Finally, I served as the unit's Intelligence Officer and worked with local, state, and federal government representatives, as well as key decision-makers within the maritime industry, to identify threats to the industry as well as the general public.

Aboard the SPENCER, I was involved in planning and executing long-range ocean patrols in a variety of mission areas, including fisheries law enforcement in the offshore fishing areas of New England, counter-narcotics surveillance and enforcement operations in the Caribbean, alien migrant interdiction operations in the Caribbean and the Florida Straits, and homeland security operations. I was also involved in developing homeland security best practices in conducting boardings of commercial cargo vessels in the immediate wake of the 9/11 attacks.
