I've been building software and Internet startups for roughly 20 years as a Founder and CEO. Over the last 12 years I've focused exclusively on fintech, launching 2 venture backed companies, and now in the last 6.5 years I've been laser focused on the banking / payments / digital asset space. In my fintech endeavors, I've combined finance & fintech policy work in the US and emerging markets to help bring about impactful change - as part of my mission in work is to help bring about more open, transparent, and accessible financial services. My first fintech policy experience was as part of a small leadership group in Washington D.C. in 2011 - 2014 that played a role both on Capitol Hill with legislators in the House and Senate, and subsequently engaged with the SEC as regulator, on a portion of what became the JOBS Act. This modernized early stage finance and capital formation in the US, bringing private fundraising in the modern/Internet era and allowing for a new industry of equity crowdfunding. I then founded Crowdfunder, one of the first equity crowdfunding platforms in the US, to leverage the new laws I helped bring about.More recently I've focused exclusively on the core infrastructure for digital assets - banking and payments. I believe that a new set of financial rails are being built that are/will cause a sea change in the way money, finance, and payments operate - and at the core of this change are digital currencies and distributed ledger technology. To make the biggest dent in the space possible, I decided to start a bank to provide the hard underlying infrastructure for digital assets and on chain financial models, outside of the United States in the strategic jurisdiction of Bermuda. Currently, I'm the Founder and Chairman of Jewel Bank - Bermuda's first full bank serving fintechs, payments firms, digital asset firms.
