Summer Associate
Summer Associate
As the Intellectual Property Summer Associate, I worked on a myriad of patent prosecution activities such as responding to PTO office actions, amending patent claims, and drafting applications. I have done work on software patents as well as mechanical patents. I am also involved with the firm's trademark practice group to enforce our clients trademark rights throughout the US.
Unit Mechanical Engineer
Work as the day to day unit maintenance engineer. Responsible for the maintenance and prompt repair of any fixed or rotating equipment in the unit. Generally when a problem would arise, I would lead a team of maintenance planners, unit operators, and any other specific stakeholders to determine what the driver (cost, time, etc..) of the job would be. Once this was determined, I would make any necessary calculations to safely execute the job and ensure that it was scheduled to achieve the goal of minimizing the driver of the job. I was also flexed in to assist with various reliability centered maintenance programs. Before my departure I was in the process of implementing a risk based inspection program in my unit to minimize downtime and maximize our inspection resources in the unit.
Project Engineer
Worked in the INEOS Process Technology Group with a focus towards mid to large scale projects. Part of my role has me working as a Front-End Loading Engineer. In that capacity I both work closely with outside engineering firms to ensure that their detailed designs meet our specifications and engineering standards, and bring projects from the initial idea stage all the way through detailed design. In this role general role, I was assigned to be the Commissioning Engineer for the site integration of a new LAO unit at our site. For this, I had to understand the different types of equipment that I was in charge of starting up and fully commissioning for the first time. I broke the role down into 4 major systems, and further sub-systems underneath that. From these I was able to work a schedule of regularly meeting with OEM's and EPC's to understand what the likely infant failure modes would be present for these systems and steps that should be taken to minimize their probability and mitigate their effect.
Student Ministry Intern
I functioned as a faith leader and a relationship builder for the youth so that they could have someone close to their age that they could confide in. Served on Church Leadership Council to vote on matters pertinent to the direction of our church and how we would get there as a congregation. Chaired a Sub-Committee on church property usage where certain priorities where discussed and an action plan was decided on for the long term vision for the property that the church sits on. Created and led a ‘Doughnuts and Devo’ at a local high school, Pasadena Memorial HS, where I would bring fresh doughnuts for the students and run a morning devotional for them before they went to their morning classes. Created and led the Collide College Ministry. Organized different fellowship and team building events such as movie nights or going to an escape room. Operated out of San Jacinto College to make the ministry more accessible to everyday college students and have the greatest impact.
Mechanical Maintenance Engineering Intern
As a Maintenance Engineering Intern my primary responsibility was to shadow the full time Maintenance Engineer in his day to day operations and duties. I was also tasked with a series of projects that would aid in the safety and reliability of the site. One particular project was to perform a Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on a critical piece of equipment connected to the site's furnaces. The RCFA revealed that the root cause was a lack of maintenance on the equipment over a span of approximatley 12 years.
Mechanical Reliability Engineering Intern
As the Mechanical Reliability Engineering Intern my primary job role was to assist in increasing the reliability of the site for associated pieces of rotating equipment. One such project had me investigate what would be required to bring a pump back in to service that had previously been abandoned in place with no nitrogen blanket. This included outlining specific actions required to take by specific vendors and plant personnel along with costs associated with the tasks. Another such project had me develop and implement a maintenance strategy for a compressor skid that was without one. This included a preventative maintenance schedule with predictive maintenance intervals along with adding a spare parts stock and training for on-site personnel to tear down and rebuild the critical compressor.
Mechanical Maintenance Engineering Intern
During my time as the Mechanical Maintenance Engineering Intern I was primarily tasked with filling in for the vacant Full Time Mech. Maintenance Engineer while assisting the site Reliability Engineer. This included executing multiple Management of Change (MOC) documents associated with various pumps that required updating to newer technologies. One large project I undertook was to perform a Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on a positive displacement pump to determine why it was grossly under-performing. The findings of the RCFA were a combination of a slight tear in the diaphragm coupled with poor calibration prior to initial start-up. Findings were confirmed by OEM Technician performing the rebuild.
Janitor
General janitorial duties including taking out weekly trash, sweeping the entire shop daily, and assisting in clean-up from major company projects. Would also perform general mechanic duties when the shop was short staffed for tearing down engines and clean up of the parts from the engines.
