My interest has always been rooted in the ways to convey information. With that mission in mind, I embarked on my career in journalism. Through that work, I learned copious amounts about rigorous data collection, quality reporting, clear information presentation and the intricacies of appealing a subject to an audience. I value the necessity for clean and efficient communication that can guarantee the successful exchange of ideas and information. I aim to enhance these means of discourse by striving toward readability and providing valuable information at the appropriate level of detail. I’m drawn to the ability to use technology, programs and algorithms to effectively syndicate messages and to help facilitate other’s messages. This led me to the field of computer science, which offers a variety of opportunities to apply, manipulate and enhance information. Through my academic training at UAB, I’ve learned to delve further into aspects such multimedia information retrieval and high-performance computing. In my computer science curriculum, I’ve studied numerous languages, programming styles and algorithms: from website development using the LAMP stack and JavaScript to object-oriented programming in Python and Java to database management with SQL and noSQL databases. With knowledge of these skills and my past work in communication, I can optimize client-side needs and write the necessary code to satisfy client requirements. Furthermore, through my experience in my undergraduate, graduate and professional career, I have mastered the ability to remain focused and allow my edification to come from a variety of sources. I seek out those forms so my education isn’t limited to the classroom. To me, the value of education comes from the wealth of options for learning and growing.
