About Chandra Biswas

My first internship at Institute of Human Reproduction in 2018 was the time when I realized I liked research. 2021 is a year when I got the opportunity through INSA-IASc-IAS fellowship to carry out my dissertation at National Center for Cell Sciences, Pune, where I'm learning new things every single day and it's very exciting every single time. Other than that I also love doing yoga and have represented Assam at State and National level championships in Yoga tournaments. I was also awarded the title of 'Yoga Samragi' for two consecutive years, 2012 and 2013.

My job responsibility as a JRF was to work on the project titled ‘Elucidation of the Role of Long Non-coding RNA-GINIR as a Biomarker in Lung Tumorigenesis’. I assisted with the planning and execution of experiments and research activities in the biological sciences, gathered and evaluated data, performed literature reviews, and remained current on pertinent research papers, prepared and maintained laboratory supplies, equipment, and buffers. I performed experiments with molecular biology methods, cell culture, and other pertinent operations, accurately recorded and arranged research data, assisted with data statistical analysis using appropriate software, and prepared research summaries, reports, and presentations. I also gained experience in techniques like cell culture (MCF7, A549 cell lines), western blotting, RT-PCR, protein estimation, electrophoresis, genomic DNA, and RNA extraction.

As a trainee, my project was titled ‘To examine the direct interaction of γH2AX with FBXO31, a component of E3 ubiquitination ligase using in-vitro interaction assay, ubiquitination, and Comet assay’ to check for DNA damage and repair pathway’. I learned sophisticated molecular biology methods, such as protein-protein interaction tests, ubiquitination assays, and Comet assays. I learned the ideas, methods, and equipment needed for each technique, worked with senior researchers to organize and carry out studies involving the interaction of H2AX with FBXO31, and conducted in vitro interaction tests to determine the direct binding of H2AX and FBXO31. To evaluate the ubiquitination state of H2AX by FBXO31, learn and execute ubiquitination tests analyze the findings, and add to their interpretation. I also learned about Comet assay techniques for assessing DNA damage and repair processes. In addition, I was trained to maintain laboratory equipment and reagents, as well as a safe and orderly working environment. As needed, I assisted with acquiring and refilling supplies and finally received training in basic molecular biology techniques and conducted my own Master's dissertation project on FBXO proteins in ubiquitination.
