During this last year of my four-year term, I chaired the Audit Committee, my third year in this role, with a continued focused on building a high impact Internal Audit department that supports the District in effective Risk Management and Audit Response. I was the Board Tribal Liaison, my second year in this appointed role, and served on the Washington State School Director's Association Government to Government Task Force responsible for supporting School District Leadership in conducting Tribal Consultation consistent with best practices and in direct collaboration with Washington Tribes. I developed the first School District level Policy on Tribal Consultation in an effort to elevate Seattle Public Schools, at the governance level, to best practice in Tribal relationships.Additionally, I completed a second year of service as an elected representative on the WSSDA Advisory Board to the Washington State Interscholastic Athletic Association.

In my third year on the Board I was elected Vice President and continued the heavy lift of supporting the implementation of Student Outcomes Focused Governance as Chair of the Implementation Committee. The work of the committee was successfully passed with support from all but one Board member and all but one of the fifty pages of recommendations and implementation is well underway.During this legislative term I also continue to serve as appointed Chair of Audit and Finance, Elected representative to the WSSDA Advisory Board to the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association and began my first year as Tribal Liaison.

As elected Board President, I introduced and led implementation of the adoption of a Student Outcomes Focused Policy Governance model. During this same period, I led the Board in the hiring of a new Superintendent who became a collaborative part of this cultural shift in leadership. Transitioning to behavior that demonstrates focus, role clarity, and team orientation required substantive training and professional development for the full Board, Superintendent and each of us as individual leaders. To accomplish this, I built strong relationships with the Council of Great City Schools and the Washington State School Director's Association. I also spent months in weekly calls with community and school leaders. Ultimately, in full alignment with the District's innovative Strategic Plan, we outlined "SMART" goals inclusive of annual and semi-annual interim metrics, as well as monthly monitoring to bring data to the forefront of our focus on student outcomes. Effectively demonstrating operationalization of the Goals, aka the Community Mission and Vision required alignment of the Superintendent evaluation to the SMART goals and executive limitations as representative of the community's Values. Most importantly we adopted a measurable, time use-based, self-evaluation of the Board as a team. At the focus of all of this are outcomes for African American Males and all other students furthest from educational justice, including Native American Indian Students. To have such a righteous goals such as closing opportunity gaps is commendable, to have demonstrated achievement of, even movement toward, such goals is to be truly celebrated. As we now work to maintain the rigor of this accountability, and create a boardroom reflective of what we expect in the classroom, a learning environment that sets everyone up for success, I am deeply hopeful that this work will continue and deepen until that celebration comes.

Elected to four year term on Seattle Public Schools Board. Was elected Vice President, served on executive committee, and Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee. Led complete reorganization of the Audit Committee to transition toward a high value function in support of effective alignment of Risk Management and Internal Audit with District Goals, Guardrails and Policies. Engaged an outside firm to support bringing industry best practices in line with District's strategic plan and compliance with Risk Identification, Mitigation and Comprehensive Audit Response for both internal and external Audits.

Finance instructor for certificate program in Tribal Gaming and Hospitality Management. Taught foundations of accounting systems, budgeting and financial statements to support students in financial literacy in their Tribal Gaming and hospitality settings.

Created and refined platform for multi-million dollar lending portfolio to Individual Tribal Member and Tribal Nation owned businesses and projects. Grew portfolio of assets and relationships to over Ten Million. Hallmarks and innovations of the platform were flexibility in collatoralization and income verification consistent with Tribal Sovereignty and income derived from Treaty Rights. Led collaborations within the Community Development Financial Institution industry to provide technical and capital assistance to emerging Native CDFIs and institutions working to further the circulation of capital within Indian Country. Received Changemaker award for program accomplishments from parent Affiliate, ShoreBank.

Structured and executed transactions with Tribes and Tribally owned enterprises spanning a wide range of industries, from Gaming and Hospitality to Forestry and Natural Resource activities and Land Acquisition.

San Diego Foundation for Change is a Family Foundation supporting grassroots community organizing to address significant social justice issues facing individual communities. Was sole staff person supporting board of directors and the organization's operations and grant-making process and management. The organization provides transformative funding by trusting in communities and their self-determination.

Managed administration and promotion of Executive MBA program for Healthcare Professionals, primarily nurse managers and physicians. Collaboration with UC San Marcos provided weekend and evening opportunities for healthcare professionals to move into administrative management positions as their organizations transitioned to HMO structures.

Community Partnership programs were federally funded initiatives aimed at promoting cross sector collaboration to strengthen communities against risks such as drug/alcohol addiction and violence. As one of the organization's first hires I had administrative, operational and programmatic responsibilities. I led our work with the Urban American Indian Community (primarily relocatee families) which resulted in the American Indian Alliance. This was an extremely successful effort led by community, facilitated and supported by us at Community Partnership, to move beyond decades of inter-agency strife and form a cohesive community center. The organization that formed as a result, still thrives today.
