Dr. Chandrakant B. Salunkhe is currently serving as the Principal at Krishna Mahavidylaya in Shivnagar, Rethare Bk., Maharashtra, India. He specializes in botanical gardens, ex-situ and in-situ conservation of rare and endangered (RET) plants, botanical garden tourism, sacred grooves, grass systematics, and herbal medicine. He earned his Ph.D. degree in the Taxonomy of Angiosperms from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India, in 1995.Dr. Salunkhe has been a distinguished participant at international conferences, where he has held roles such as Keynote Speaker, Plenary Speaker, Invited Speaker, Guest Lecturer, and Chairperson. These conferences have taken place in various countries including Turkey (2015, 2016, 2019), Thailand (2013), Indonesia (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019), China (2012) and Egypt (2016). Additionally, he has presented research papers as a sponsored participant in Sweden (2023), Turkey (2019), Japan (2018), USA (2017), Switzerland (2014), Oman (2014), the Netherlands (2011), Malaysia (2011), and China (2007, 2008).As a Sponsored participant, he attended the International events in Sweden, Turkey, USA, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Oman.He has authored 54 publications and 4 books. As a principal investigator, he has successfully completed 4 projects funded by the MoEFCC and the UGC, New Delhi. He has published more than 100 popular articles on RET and medicinal plants in local media and delivered over 80 lectures on topics such as Botanic Gardens, Sacred Groves, Biodiversity Conservation, Medicinal Plants, Grass Diversity, and Rare and Endangered (RET) Plants of the Western Ghats.He had the privilege of mentoring 7 students through their Ph.D. and 3 students in pursuit of their M.Phil. degrees.
