Specifically, it provides professional development, best practice benchmarking and industry recognition to inviduals working in the following four pillars: Admissions; Alumni & Community Relations; Fundraising; and Marketing & Communications.The role of Training Manager is primarily connected with the Certified Advancement Practitioner Program, which provides industry recognised qualifications for each of these four pillars, as well as providing support for other activities, such as the chapter and international conferences, and PD seminars more generally.ROLE:Assisting with the review and development of course content for the online and residential components of the program.All marking and assessment of the online components for the Alumni & Community Relations and Fundraising courses.Presenting modules on 'Engaging Young Alumni & International Alumni' and 'Events & Reunions' in the Alumni & Community Relations Course, and a module on 'Databases' in the Admissions Course.Assisting with marketing and communications for the program.

Driven Outcomes is a start-up human resource business dedicated to empowering the employees of today and the future, by delivering a suite of personal and professional development programs for 15-25-year-olds.In this role, I was primarily responsible for developing the concept of a comprehensive two-day youth program called TRIPOD, focusing on employability skills, the job-hunter toolkit, and industry knowledge and mentoring. I also created a complementary two-day program for parents, teachers, careers advisors and other adults seeking to understand the challenges and opportunities facing Gen Z.

Rux Burton Associates is a leading provider globally of fundraising consultancy and services, particularly in the field of telephone campaigns for education and other membership organisations and the design and implementation of Annual Funds, including email, flash and mail campaigns.ROLE:Managing the Australasian office of three staff and working with clients and potential clients at universities and schools across Australia and New Zealand.Managing the design and implementation of all aspects of the telephone campaigns, from data analysis to advising on and/or writing the segmentation strategy, call to action and communications copy, assisting with recruiting and training teams of up to 50 student and alumni callers, and developing the follow-up stewardship plan.Coaching and mentoring the graduate campaign managers to achieve best results with calling teams.Providing detailed analysis, post-campaign, to assist clients in reporting results to senior management and for strategic planning towards their next campaign.Writing business proposals and making presentations to prospective clients.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:Each of the 3-5 week campaigns I managed in this role (for two universities and an independent school) exceeded their fundraising targets, which ranged from $120K to $300K, as well as generating significant benefits in data acquisition, relationship-building, mentoring and internships for students.

Swinburne University of Technology is a dual sector university, first est in 1908 as the Eastern Suburbs Technical College.Responsible for managing all aspects of design and implementation of the university strategy for maintaining and building relationships with its alumni, who grew from 80,000 in 2010 to 140,000 by 2014.Management and development of Raiser’s Edge alumni and fundraising database, including creating business rules and policies, and training new users.Management of all printed and electronic communications to alumni, including the social media strategy.Assisted in design and management of annual event program, including managing overseas events in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Hong Kong, and VIP events for honorary doctorate recipients. Managed all aspects of the university’s Annual Appeal, including segmentation strategy, copywriting, video production, website development, donation forms and stewardship.Managed and supported alumni chapters in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.Advisor for Golden Key International Honour Society Chapter.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:Managed overhaul of Raiser’s Edge alumni and fundraising database, to significantly cleanse and update records. Results included: all graduate records captured electronically; no. of alumni records increased by 75% (80K-140K); no. of email addresses increased by 500% (9K to 55K); percentage of contactable alumni increased from 40% to 74%.Increased publication of the Alumni E-News from quarterly to monthly and managed the writing and distribution of over 120 EDMs annually to target segments in the alumni and donor community.Increased readership of electronic communications by over 500% (6K-37K).Introduced Graduation photography strategy that generated 60K Facebook hits on second implementation.Helped increase annual event attendance by 900% (300-3K).Increased Annual Appeal gifts by 230%, from $36K to $120K, from a pool of 3K donors/prospects, over three years.

The Educate Plus International Conference is a biennial professional development event for individuals working in educational advancement across Australia, New Zealand and SE Asia. The 2014 event comprised seven streams run over three days, along with Pre-Conference workshops and a major Gala Event featuring a Spring Carnival theme.ROLE:Led an organising committee of 12 educational advancement and industry volunteers, while also working closely with the Educate Plus CEO and Conference Manager, to design, manage and deliver the conference. Designed and managed innovative new conference content, including the first fully differentiated streams for the Tertiary and School sectors in Fundraising and Alumni Relations; the Pre-Conference Careers, Archives and Website workshops; and the 'Breakfast Blitz' showcase of finalists for the Educate Plus Excellence Awards.Co-ordinated the Tertiary Alumni Stream, co-led the Tertiary Fundraising Stream and liaised with all plenary and international speakers.Wrote all content for marketing and communications (EDMs, website, collateral) and assisted with production and scripting for promotional video. Edited bios and synopses for more than 80 speakers and collated for website and program. Worked with the Social Program Sub-Committee to design social events and entertainment.Represented Educate Plus at state conferences and gatherings as the Conference Chair. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS: The conference exceeded all of its previous benchmarks, with a 23% increase in participants (from 600 in 2012 to 740 in 2014), an increase in content, speakers and sponsors, and overwhelmingly positive feedback via email and online survey.

The University of Canterbury is the second oldest university in New Zealand (est 1873), with faculties of Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Forestry, Law, Music & Fine Arts, and Science.ROLE:Responsible for managing all aspects of the university's strategy for maintaining and building relationships with its alumni community, which grew from 24K in 1999 to 117K in 2010.Designed and managed an annual event program of 30-40 events, in NZ, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, the UK and USA, including reunions and milestone events.Wrote all copy for alumni communications, including e-newsletters, EDMs, website, invitations, brochures, posters, media releases and award citations.Editor of the UC Alumni magazine (1999-2004), then co-editor of the biennial Canterbury Magazine (48pp, dstrib 55K), 2004-2008.Wrote feature profiles, news and scientific research articles for university publications.Managed implementation and development of Raiser’s Edge as the alumni/fundraising database.Managed promotion and sale of university’s branded merchandise.Managed licensing agreements generating $40K annually for a student scholarship fund. Designing and leading weekly tutorials on Old and Middle English texts (Beowulf, The Battle of Maldon, The Canterbury Tales, etc), marking the internal assessment component of the course (essay and test), and supporting pastoral care for 50+ first-year students. This part-time role was managed in conjunction with fulltime research and writing as a postgraduate student in the University of Canterbury English Department.
