I am a graduate student at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, focusing on structural engineering. I developed my structural analysis skills from fundamental courses such as structural analysis, steel structures, reinforced concrete, and finite element. I am highly engaged in a few technical research groups. Moreover, I have played key roles in various student organizations as lead engineer and vice-president. At the University of Illinois, I led the team in Illinois Solar Decathlon and collaborated with other team leads to design and build an innovative, net-zero solar house with local vendors. We developed construction drawings, specification documents, and 3D Revit Models, earning us successful industry sponsorships. Leading my team prompted me to gain a comprehensive understanding of the civil engineering industry, including the collaboration with the interior design, MEP, vendors, etc. Through this project, I sharpened my managerial and leadership skills and developed confidence in my ability to generate change. I see that good coordination between teams can make the whole project more efficient. In the meantime, I also served as the vice president of Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. Together with my teammates, we constructed 3D model in AutoCAD and ETABS, and manufactured high-rise model for the Seismic Design Competition. With our success in the competition, we won the “Most Improved Society” award from the engineering council.Other than the course work I also conducted a Photogrammetric Analysis of Wind Speed and Debris research with Professor Lombardo, an Image Segmentation for Concrete Petrographic Analysis with Professor Lange, and Fluid-Structure research with Professor Yan. Many of my research and courses are related to laboratory material testing and behavior analysis. I am excited to devote myself to an actual project and apply my knowledge to provide the best solutions. My interest in wind engineering led me to join Prof. Lombardo's Wind Engineering Research Lab. My coursework in tall building design and 3D structure software analysis built a solid foundation for me to contribute to the team effectively. My endeavors in the courses, research, and internship prepared me well for real-world engineering projects. More importantly, I have the quick-learning skills to apply my knowledge from courses and research to real-world projects. During my tenure as a teaching assistant, I accrued a sense of responsibility engaging with my students and being answerable to my professor.
