Overseeing strategic communications for the Pacific Disaster Center (PDC Global) including all public relations, marketing, and outreach activities in support of its disaster risk reduction programs and life-saving missions around the world. Winner of the 2022 UN Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction, the University of Hawai’i’s Pacific Disaster Center is a globally recognized leader for its advanced early warning and hazard impact modeling, data science, and analytics augmented by artificial intelligence. In my role as Communications Manager, I have helped garner international recognition for PDC’s work and enhanced the value of its offerings by curating compelling content for its print and online products, as well as its news content, and social media presence. My contributions include the creative direction and production of videography, social campaigns, news releases, print collateral, and user interface design for our flagship technology platform, DisasterAWARE. My work also specializes in the translation of complex scientific and technological concepts into easy-to-understand informational products supporting U.S. disaster management and humanitarian assistance agencies such as USAID, FEMA, the Department of Defense, international and nongovernmental organizations like the United Nations and Red Cross, and national disaster management organizations worldwide. During my tenure at PDC, I've supported disaster risk reduction projects and life-saving response operations throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Foreign assignments include public relations support and talking points for elected and senior-level officials. I also support press coverage for disaster resilience and climate action programs, the creation of press kits for international events, and crisis communications support for large-scale disasters. In this capacity, I bring multicultural sensitivity and diplomacy as well as decades of experience communicating with a broad array of audiences.
