EPIC is a student-run not-for-profit organization dedicated to Educating, Promoting, Inspiring, and Connecting students with a passion for technology in a fun and exciting way. EPIC is a platform for collaboration between industry, academia and the student body on topics relating to technology, innovation, ideas and action.

The competition involves a civil action trial and features opening and closing arguments, examinations-in-chief and cross-examinations of witnesses.Patrick acted as co-defense counsel for a repair shop in a personal injury negligence action. Client was not found liable for damages. Patrick was awarded the H. Bruce T. Hillyer Award for Best Closing Argument.

Queen's Legal Aid (QLA) offers services to low-income area residents and full-time Queen's student living in Kingston, South Frontenac, or South Lennox & Addington County. About 80 law students work on clients' files during the academic year, eighteen of whom can register for Clinical Litigation Practice (CLP) and carry significant client service responsibilities for academic credit.QLA areas of Law: tenant's rights matters; Small Claims Court matters, for claims between $1000 and $10,000; certain provincial and summary criminal offences; social assistance, disability benefits, Canadian Pension Plan and employment insurance appeals; victims' claims to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB); employees' disputes with employers over wages and/or wrongful dismissal; and Human Rights complaints.Law students interview and counsel clients, research legal issues, draft legal memoranda, provide legal opinions, prepare pleadings, negotiate settlements and appear before criminal and civil courts, as well as before administrative tribunals under close supervision by clinic lawyers. CLP students further have to lead a short seminar and have classes covering: trials and hearings advocacy, interviewing and counselling, file management, legal ethics, legal research and writing, negotiation and settlement, office procedures, professional responsibility and solicitor/client relationships.Patrick Chan has:* Appeared before the Landlord Tenant Boad (LTB) to defend an eviction on the grounds that the LTB had no subject matter jurisdiction* Presented a seminar on consumer credit* Assisted with an application to the CICB* Prepared to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice (Ont. C.J.) to defend a criminal charge of mischief* Appeared before the Social Benefits Tribunal to appeal a denied Ontario Disability Support Program Act application* Appeared before a Ont. C.J. Judge to assist with a guilty plea for a provincial offence of speeding

The Harold G. Fox Moot is intended to promote the furtherance of education in the intellectual property field, and to provide participants with the opportunity to interact with jurists of the Supreme, Ontario, and Federal Courts and experienced practitioners of intellectual property law.
