About 80 law students work on clients' files during the academic year, eighteen of whom can register for Clinical Litigation Practice (CLP) and carry significant client service responsibilities for academic credit.QLA areas of Law: tenant's rights matters; Small Claims Court matters, for claims between $1000 and $10,000; certain provincial and summary criminal offences; social assistance, disability benefits, Canadian Pension Plan and employment insurance appeals; victims' claims to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (CICB); employees' disputes with employers over wages and/or wrongful dismissal; and Human Rights complaints.Law students interview and counsel clients, research legal issues, draft legal memoranda, provide legal opinions, prepare pleadings, negotiate settlements and appear before criminal and civil courts, as well as before administrative tribunals under close supervision by clinic lawyers.
