PHG Foundation is a policy think tank with a focus on health care and genomics. Looking at policy and technical challenges that are likely to arise through the combination of biomedical innovation and personalisation of healthcare. I undertake comprehensive analysis and interpretation of relevant resources to understand a particular issue. I use my experience in diagnostics, healthcare, genomics and research to provide scientific support to the Foundation. Current projects include; disease prevention, polygenic scores and breast cancer. The PHG Foundation is an established policy think tank, advocating for and providing leadership on the translation of modern biomedical technologies to improve health, primarily genomics and emerging technologies. PHG Foundation is a linked exempt charity of the University of Cambridge.

Provided scientific expertise and assistance in the writing of a workshop report on "Personalised prevention in breast cancer"

Provided laboratory and database support at the MRC Cancer Unit, Fitzgerald Laboratory. Temporary cover for someone on sick leave.

Engage with stakeholders through workshops and mixed methods research (interviews, medical role play, questionnaires) among tertiary, secondary and primary healthcare users. The main objective is to assess the barriers and facilitators to implementation among each group with the aim of characterise the usability and usefulness of the prototype tool. The development of the tool was through an iterative process of consulting with these clinical investigators, developers and researchers. Funded by Cancer Research UK, the CanRisk programme is exploring the use of risk factors and risk models to predict the likelihood of a person developing cancer, and whether knowledge of their risk will affect their behaviour. The main objective is to develop and validate quantitative tools for cancer risk-stratification and prevention that take advantage of discoveries in both cancer genomics and epidemiology.

National Cancer Registry, Cancer Epidemiology Research Group.Scientist at the NCR involved with all research projects from epidemiology, cancer registry, to ethics application and protocol design. Lead scientist for the Johannesburg Cancer Study, the largest study at the National Cancer Registry.

Somatic Cell Genetics UnitAccredited diagnostic department with routine duties, service provider for state and private hospitals. R&D of new diagnostic tests in cancer, germline (blood or tissue) and somatic (tumour or blood)New test implemented: KIT and PDGFRa mutational analysis in Gastrointestinal Stromal tumour (GIST) patients. Diagnostic procedures including Karyotyping, FISH, PCR and Sanger sequencing. From receiving the sample, laboratory processing and writing reports for the results.Research projects included copy number changes in colorectal cancer tumours and molecular characteristics of HIV related lymphomas. Accredited lab that participated in training of HPCSA interns, I was a supervisor and advisor on this process.
