Manager - Translational EffectivenessLeiden University Medical Center Jul 2022 - PresentLeiden, Zuid-Holland, NederlandWithin reNEW we aim to see our fundamental stem cell research deliver on products that will improve human health. This requires excellent science combined with the knowledge on how to translate this science effectively and safely towards first use in patients and ultimately marketing authorization. To do that, the academic research agenda needs to be matched and adjusted with the requirements of regulatory bodies such as EMA. This is where I come in, as I guide the translational teams that work on gene therapy (ATMPs) for Immune Deficiencies and Muscular Dystrophy in building the development plan and navigating the regulatory landscape. Here is where I also infuse some business acumen in the organizational aspects of doing translational research within the boundaries of an academic research organization. Ultimately leading to parallel but strongly connected translational and basic research, each with its own objectives and incentives. In short my role is to pave the path towards safe, sustainable and responsible academic development of gene therapies. -

Business ConsultantUmc Utrecht Jan 2017 - Dec 2017ECRAID is the result of the commitment of the European consortia COMBACTE and PREPARE to deliver on their objectives to establish a sustainable high-functioning broadly inclusive EU clinical trial and laboratory networks in infectious diseases. Last year a high level strategy document was developed. In 2017 ECRAID is ready to commence with its detailed design phase. Various sources of funding for financing the detailed design of ECRAID are being pursued. In support of, and in anticipation of the securing of financing sources various support activities need to be continued. I do this together with Frank Deege from nextco, and as part of the project organisation team that have developed the High level ECRAID Design in 2016. Business ConsultantUmc Utrecht Feb 2016 - Dec 2016Utrecht Area, NetherlandsAntimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing problem worldwide, and with few new drugs making it to the market, there is an urgent need for new medicines to treat resistant infections. COMBACTE (Combatting Bacterial Resistance in Europe) aims to give antibiotic drug development a much-needed boost by pioneering new ways of designing and implementing efficient clinical trials for novel antibiotics. Key will be the development of a high quality, pan-European clinical trial network. Ultimately, the hope is that COMBACTE will provide a framework and center of expertise for the rapid and efficient development of new treatments as well as diagnostic tests that can be speedily commercialised for use on the patients that so urgently need them.COMBACTE's managing entity is located at the Utrecht University Clinic (Julius Center). My role is to advice and support the current network on business model development to prepare that step into the future. -
