I’m an advocate for the impacts of the child welfare and criminal justice systems, as well as mental health and holistic wellness for marginalized communities. I have a background in writing, editing, facilitation, communication, creative strategy, and youth advocacy. When I was 18 I began writing for Represent magazine at Youth Communication. I wrote and edited articles for a national magazine which allowed me to communicate complex hardships with clarity and purpose. I also photographed pivotal moments at protests and rallies, showcasing my storytelling through powerful imagery. I continued to protest and utilize photography as a way of storytelling during the BLM protests. As I expanded, I volunteered for Africa Voices HQ, a newly emerging magazine at the time about mental health within the diaspora. I interviewed and documented the stories of people overcoming and struggling with mental health/trauma. This deepened my understanding of global mental health issues within the community and how a personal narrative plays a crucial role in healing and advocacy. As I continued my journey, I became an Operations Assistant at Equality Charter School where I improved my organizational skills by managing student records, scheduling appointments, and creating detailed reports on budgets and attendance.June 2023 I became a Youth Fellow for the See Us,Support Us Initiative at the Osborne Association where I worked closely with the Youth Team to spread awareness and advocate for children of incarcerated parents. I transitioned into a role to develop an abolition curriculum for the Youth Action Council and presented at a national conference in Arizona, spoke on virtual & in person panels, & provided strategic guidance to increase youth participation. I transitioned again into the Communications Specialist role collaborating with the Comms teams to advance their policy & advocacy campaigning efforts through social media and website building. Additional skills I have are Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Meet/Groups, Wix, Asana, and Mailchimp, along with creative digital tools like Smore, Canva, and Visme.Lastly, I’m the owner of a BIPOC/QTBIPOC centered community-based virtual space for mental health called Whole Care Wellness. It includes a resource library, community forums, monthly panels/webinars, a writing circle, and so much more! Im excited to integrate the knowledge from my personal and professional experiences into my holistic practice!I’m always down to connect with like-minded people, collaborate, and share insights!
