Power Systems Development Engineer
CurrentResponsibilities: • Perform steady-state and dynamic power system analysis to support the system operator’s ability to meet its Principal Performance Obligations (PPO’s).• Remain adept in the use of power system modelling tools including PowerFactory, DSAToolsTM and PSCAD. Provide tool support to the division and engage across Transpower to ensure best practise in their use is maintained.• Contribute to the development and deployment of dynamic power system tools and ancillary services to support real time operations.• Participate in strategic and critical optimisation studies for the operation of the National Grid in terms of asset capability, spinning reserve, reactive power, and transient security.• Verify and calibrate dynamic models of power system assets. Ensure that dynamic control systems implemented by industry participants are accurate, stable, grid enhancing and in accordance to industry standards.• Provide strategic technical advice to Operations, wider Transpower and the Electricity Authority through research and technical studies• Develop operational strategies, policies, standards and guidelines to enable successful integration and operation of emerging energy technologies into the New Zealand power system• Promote and lead discussions on integration and operation of emerging energy technologies in New Zealand to achieve a secure and resilient 100% renewable power system
