Research areas include:- Structural design & failure analysis of ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) applied to turbine blades.- The mechanism of the effects of surface treatments (e.g. shot peening and laser shock peening) on the fatigue resistance of blade materials.

Involved in the Powerplant Integration with Platform Systems (PIPS) project led by Rolls-Royce. This project aims at enhancing the performance of future aircraft through greater integration between power-plant and wing systems, nacelle system integration and structural engine optimisation.My key responsibilities include:- Developed a set of toolsets for the preliminary design of aircraft wings, considering the effects of engine loads and positions. Integrated the toolsets using Isight, including design modules such as flight loads calculation, structural sizing and FE wing model generator. - Conducted sensitivity analysis using the developed toolsets and FE models to investigate the potential weight saving strategies by changing the engine positions and pylon configurations, considering the interactions between the engine, pylon and wing.- Developed high-fidelity CAD and FE models of A320 wing using Siemens NX and Hypermesh, which was validated against static and modal testing performed on a real A320 wing.- Performed high-fidelity structural sizing of civil aircraft wings using MSC Nastran, identifying the key design conditions (e.g. engine loads) required at the preliminary design stage.- Proposed a strategy based on stacking sequence optimisation for the design of scaled composite wing, which can accurately represent the structural behaviour of the full-scale wing, based on similitude analysis.- Participated in the design and manufacturing of test assets to ensure the satisfaction of structural requirements.- Presented clear and concise technical summaries and planning at scheduled project reviews.
