Dr Tan is a Senior Scientist, Principal Investigator and Doctoral Supervisor at the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), A*STAR. Prior to joining SIMTech, he was a Tenured Associate Professor at Guangdong University of Technology. He was awarded as an Honorary Research Fellow of University of Birmingham and Guangzhou Young Talent Researcher in 2019. He was elected as a Fellow of International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) and listed in World’s Top 2% Scientist Ranking 2022 -2024. He leads a few national research projects from Singapore as the PI, with a total budget exceeding S$ 1 million. His research experience in Additive Manufacturing (3D printing), has been over 10 years and contributed about 80 SCI papers, including 27 SCI journal papers as First Author and 14 papers as Correspondent (19 papers with IF >10), achieving an H-index 34. He is on Editorial Board of the Top journal Int. J. Mach. Tools Manuf. (IF 14) and Youth Editor of Int. J. Extreme Manuf. (IF 16.1) and J. Mater. Sci. Technol. (IF 11.2), and he is also on Associate Editorial Board of 3 SCI Q1 journals including Mater. Res. Lett. (IF 8.6), Rare Metals (IF 9.6) and Trans. Nonferrous Met. Soc. China. He is the annual reviewer of many reputable journals, such as Nat. Commun., Acta Mater.
