About Dee Chapman
After earning both my bachelor and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, I began a career at the University, collaborating with industry, faculty, scientists, teachers, students, and the public. My projects included working with: Caterpillar, Inc. engineers to develop a virtual reality system for examining operator visibility; faculty and students to develop a virtual reality environment for an educational research study (“Crossing Streets”); peers to develop workshops for teachers; and faculty, scientists, and teachers to design and build educational websites. In August 2018, I developed an iOS app to control a DJI drone for use in an agriculture application. Outside of my professional life, I co-founded an educational cooperative (“Joy in Learning”) when I was homeschooling my children from 2009-2020. As co-leader, I managed the logistics, budget, curriculum, planning, and teaching. I gained valuable insight and skills in organizing and managing long-term projects, as well as a greater sensitivity in working with many families and students from diverse cultural backgrounds.I currently teach math (Algebra, Applied Math and Statistics), AP Computer Science A, and AP Computer Science Principles at Griffin School, a private college preparatory high school in Austin, TX. Learning and teaching are a consistent theme throughout my work and life, and I am energized by collaborating with others who share these passions.
