• I was appointed as an intern in the technology research team to conduct forward-looking descriptive analysis on datasets related to mining operations planning. • My duties included liaising with process owners in the business to source, clean, interpret and merge datasets. Finally, I performed calculations and refactored the data to create a new dataset ready for analysis and to build a dashboard. • In this project, I used tools such as Microsoft Office Excel to import data, merge, format, and refactor the datasets. • I used a Microsoft Power Platform to build the dashboard, specifically Power BI. Creating the dashboard on Power BI was done to render the analytical dataset using graphs and appropriate filters, making it easy for business process owners to interact with the information.• During the project, I was responsible to manage my own time, and all associated project management activities.

• Finsch Mine embarked on a continuous improvement programme to not only increase production but also improve cost efficiencies. I joined the continuoud improvement team to identify and note bottlenecks in the production process for further investigation and problem solving. • With all production activities being coordinated from a central control room (CCR), I spent most of the time in the CCR focusing on the activities of the control operators, conducting time studies and statistically analysing the results to determine bottleneck.

• I was nominated to participate in a programme presented by Finsch Mine whereby the top achievers in maths and science are given the opportunity to be exposed to the dynamics of a technical career within the mining environment. • My project team was assigned to investige and optimise the logistics of transporting explosives from surface to underground at the location where blasting is to take place. • The objectives were to 1) reduce the number of times the explosives are handled and 2) to ensure explosives are delivered on time and at the correct location in order not to delay blasting. • All objectives were achieved, and the handling of explosives was reduced by 10% whilst it was possible to reduce the time required to move the explosives underground with at least 3 hours.
