- Over a decade of nursing experience in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Lactation, and Childbirth Education. - Current bedside and charge nurse in a 15 bed L&D unit managing a staff of 8-12.- Championed evidence based practices to decrease unnecessary use of urinary catheters, increase the occurrence and length of skin to skin contact within the first hour after birth, and utilize physiologic positioning and closed knee pushing to decrease the first and second stages of labor.- Will graduate from the University of Utah with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Midwifery May, 2023. Doctoral project focused on identification and treatment of obstetric emergencies in a rural emergency department with an emphasis on preeclampsia.- Member of the American College of Nurse Midwifes and participate in the local Utah chapter. Member of Sigma Theta Tau, Honor Society, and Nurses for Sexual & Reproductive Health. Utah Area Health Education Centers scholar and Advanced Nursing Education Work grant recipient.- Passionate about providing comprehensive, evidence based education to patients and a safe and welcoming environment for marginalized populations. Believe in examining personal biases and working to decrease systemic racism. Currently working on strategies to respectfully identify transgender patients when they present with obstetric complaints.- Clinical skills include, but are not limited to, speculum and cervical exams, IUD insertion and removal, birth control counseling, STI testing, new and return obstetric evaluations, ultrasound evaluation for fetal position, management of PCOS, abnormal uterine bleeding, and postpartum depression. - Training focused on the physiologic process of pregnancy and birth, obstetric complications, management of intrapartum patients, delivery, and suturing first and second degree perineal lacerations. - Open to first assist on all obstetric and gynecologic surgeries, will need additional training.- January 2023 will start an eight week rural rotation in Richfield, Utah. - Ongoing preparation to sit for the American Midwifery Certification Board certification exam. Anticipate a testing date sometime in June 2023.- Familiar with the unique challenges that face rural populations and am open to practicing in a rural location.
